COVID-19 SALON PROCEDURES

SALON CLEANING PROCEDURES

These cleaning procedures are to be performed in addition to all current state mandated procedures for salons.

Proper sanitation and disinfection are critical to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

DISINFECTING SOLUTIONS

Rubbing Alcohol

Using a flairosol bottle, spray surfaces and shared objects with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Keep nozzle 18 inches from the surface you are spraying to ensure even distribution of product. Once the area has been sprayed, allow to sit for at least 2 minute before wiping dry.

Hypochlorous Acid

Using a flairosol bottle, spray surfaces and shared objects with Hypochlorous Acid solution. Keep nozzle 18 inches from the area you are spraying to ensure even distribution of product. Once the area has been sprayed, allow to sit for at least 10 minute before wiping dry.

Hypochlorous Acid solution should be made fresh daily. Hypochlorous Acid is EPA approved.

OPENING PROCEDURE

Wash hands.

Make Hypochlorous Acid solution per manufacturer’s directions.

Each morning, spray all door handles, salon chairs, sinks, and bathroom areas with 70% Rubbing Alcohol or Hypochlorous Acid solution and set a 10-minute timer. After 10 minutes, wipe all surfaces clean of residual moisture. Work in a circular motion around the room, being sure to cover all work surfaces, handles and shared objects. Cleanse all screens and POS systems according to the instructions below.

CLEANSING SCREENS AND POS SYSTEMS

Spray screens and POS systems with rubbing alcohol. Allow alcohol to sit for 30 seconds before wiping clean. Perform as part of opening procedures and after all clients check out.

POST-APPOINTMENT CLEANSING PROCEDURE

Remit all used towels and client drapes to the soiled towel bin.

Wipe all areas of residual water, sweep hair, and consign used color bowls and equipment to washing sink. Follow all standard, state-mandated procedures for the disposal of single use items and soiled instruments.

Using a flairosol bottle, spray surfaces and shared objects with Hypochlorous Acid solution. Keep nozzle 18 inches from the area you are spraying to ensure even distribution of product. Once the area has been sprayed, allow to sit for at least 1 minute before wiping dry.

DISINFECTING DISPENSARY AREA

Wash hands.

The dispensary area should be disinfected after every appointment. There should be no "common towel” used for drying hands, dishes, or implements left out over the course of the day.

Wash hands.

PRIOR TO AND UPON CLIENT ARRIVAL 

All clients will receive a confirmation text the night before their appointment. It is the stylist’s responsibility to send this text. The body of the text should read as follows: 

“We look forward to your appointment tomorrow! Please note that if you have traveled outside Los Angeles in the last 14 days, have had symptoms of illness, received a positive test result for COVID-19, or been around someone who has tested positive in the last 3 weeks, we ask that you rebook your appointment. Tomorrow, once you have arrived and parked, please send us a text at xxx-xxx-xxxx. We will send you a confirmation text once we have completely cleaned and disinfected the environment for your appointment. The salon doors will be locked when you arrive. This is so we can take your temperature before you enter. Also, you will not be admitted unless you are wearing a mask covering your nose and mouth and your mask must be worn throughout the entirety of your appointment. Once you have entered, you will first have to wash your hands before sitting or touching any surfaces. We are not allowed to serve water or other refreshments at this time. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you!”

1. Once your client has arrived and you are ready for them, send them a text to let them know they may approach the door. 

2. Once they arrive, unlock the door and let them know you will take their temperature outside with the provided touchless device. No client will be allowed to enter with a temperature over 99 degrees F. 

3. Before allowing anyone to enter the space you must ask them the following questions:

1. Have you traveled outside Los Angeles in the last 14 days? 

2. Have you had symptoms of illness in the last 3 weeks?

3. Have you received a positive COVID-19 test result in the last 3 weeks?

4. Have you been around anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 3 weeks?


The client must answer “NO” to all questions or they will not be allowed to enter and will have to reschedule their appointment for at least 3 weeks from the date of their current appointment. This is non-negotiable. 

4. Clients must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth at all times while in the salon. 

5. Upon entering the salon, clients must immediately wash their hands in the bathroom. 

6. Upon departure, the stylist must follow all sanitation and disinfection procedures mentioned above.
